The origins of the Italian Salamini alla Cacciatora can be traced back to the period of the Lombard invasions. During their migrations, in fact, the barbarian populations needed to consume highly conservable foods, for the most part based on pork. Thus, the production of salamis began in the hilly area of Lombardy, and then spread to the neighboring regions of the northern belt. Later it was the tradition of hunters to carry these products during hunting trips, to determine both the name by which they are commonly known and the small size, required for them to be easy to carry in the bags.
